Our History

Skellorn Ponies were founded by Les Wainwright in the 1960's.  The Stud commenced with Welsh Mountain Ponies based on Revel and Fayre bloodlines, breeding Skellorn Daylight, one of the top Section A sires who still influences Section A showing stock today.

Granddaughter Kerry soon outgrew riding the Mountain Ponies and this saw the commencement of the Skellorn Section B Ponies.  The offspring of the studs Section A Mare Brynpicca Butterscotch and Baledon Squire produced the first of the studs Section B ponies, Skellorn Music Boy (pictured right), born 1977, enabling the stud to produce Olympia and County Level ponies ridden by Kerry Wainwright.

In 1997 Kerry purchased her first Connemara, Tyan Takara.  The stud now have seven mares and two stallions, Skellorn Harrison and Skellorn Monarch, both out of Tyan Takara.  The stud Connemara's regularly qualify for HOYS and Olympia.

Sadly Judy Wainwright passed away in 2007, but both Judy and Les would have been very proud of Skellorn Barbie Doll's achievements, culminating in 2009 Royal Welsh Female Champion.
